Day 1: Arrival in La Paz.

Today you will arrive in La Paz. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: La Paz city tour. Hike to Palca Canyon.

Today we will discover La Paz’s cultural diversity. We will start our day with a visit to Los Andes street to explore and admire numerous handicraft markets with artisan works as well as traditional garments and festive costumes. After venturing through a “Witches Market” and visiting the city center we will journey to the Moon Valley, where you will have some free time to explore the unique terrain.  Moving onward we will drive to Uni Lake where we will hike to the Palca Canyon. The two hour hike will give us a chance to observe natural geological formations that because of their unique shape give the name of the “The Animas Valley” (The Soul’s Valley) to this area. Along our journey we will encounter several endangered species such as the Vizcacha and Chinchilla (kinds of wild rabbits) and if lucky we might even see a few Condors.

Day 3: Transfer to Uyuni. (Flight option available).

Today you will take a bus from La Paz to Oruro and then a train to Uyuni. The bus and train is a full day adventure. If you prefer to get to Uyuni quicker, you may choose to take an early morning 45-minute flight from La Paz to Uyuni.  Whichever option you choose, upon arrival in Uyuni you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 4: Start 3 day / 2 night Salt Flats desert adventure.

Today we will venture into the desert of Uyuni. We will pass by the train cemetery en route to Cochani, where we will meet with local artisans to learn about the extraction process of salt in the region. From here, we will visit the famous Hotel Palacio de Sal, the first hotel in the world to be constructed entirely of salt. We will then continue our journey to Incahuasi Island. After lunch on the Salt Flats, we will visit the 800-year-old mummies of Coquesa and continue on to the small town of Tahua where we will spend the evening.

Day 5: Uyuni Desert adventure.

Today, we will travel on a 4×4 across the Salt Flats of Uyuni through the desert until we reach the Cache lagoons. We will also visit Chiarkhota and Honda.

Day 6: Lagoons tour. Return to Uyuni.

Today our journey continues down to the Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) and the Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon). During our adventure we will be able to observe some James Flamingoes, a species unique to the Andean region. Other highlights for today include the Borax sediments, commonly known as “The Perennial Ice”, the Sol de Mañana Geysers, Chalviri Lagoon, and the Polques thermal waters. After our exploration of the lagoons and thermal waters we will return to the village of Uyuni where we will spend the night.

Day 7: Transport from Uyuni to Potosi. Evening at Hacienda Cayara.

Today we will drive 5.5 hours from Uyuni to Potosi. We will spend the evening at Hacienda Cayara.

Some sites include the Textile Museum of Indian Arts ASUR and Liberty House (formerly the Assembly Hall of the Jesuit University, this is where the country’s Declaration of Independence was signed). If today falls on a Sunday, you’ll want to catch Tarabuco’s colorful, sprawling Sunday Market, which features high-quality artisan crafts including pullovers, charangos, coca pouches, ponchos and weavings that feature geometric and zoomorphic designs. This is one of the only places where one can still see and participate in “trueque” (barter) exchanges.
