Sunday: Santa Cruz Island

Upon arrival to the airport at Baltra Island, you will be taken across the Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island. Here, a bus will take you to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island for a visit the Giant Tortoises Reserve in their natural habitat, a once in a lifetime experience! A stop is then made at the Twin Pit Craters, great depressions of volcanic material, formed by a long process of slow sinking of the ground, where exceptional Scalesia trees, ferns, mosses and orchids can be seen in the surroundings. A box lunch is provided before you’re off to the Finch Bay Eco Hotel to enjoy its various amenities which include an outdoor pool and a white coral beach. In the evening, dinner includes the delicacies of local and international gastronomy.

Monday: Yacht Excursion to North Seymour Island.

Today you will visit the Ciudad Blanca (White City), one of the most important in Peru, surrounded by three volcanoes. Founded in 1540, the city has a historic downtown made out almost totally of sillar (a white volcanic stone), from where the city gets its name. Take a tour around the Main Square and its colonial buildings, the Church of the Society of Jesus, beautiful exponent from the mixed baroque art and Spanish churrigueresque baroque from the XVII century, along with colorful fresco paintings at the San Ignacio Dome, known as America’s Sixtine Chapel. The visit includes Santa Catalina Convent, that rather than a cloistered convent, represents a beautiful XVI century citadel, with Spanish cities pure style, such as Andalusia. Going on with the tour, we will appreciate the typical districts of Cayma and Yanahuara, the latter with its viewpoint and church.

Tuesday: Yacht Excursion to Plaza Island

Today, you’ll be exploring South Plaza Island. You’ll meet a variety of fascinating wildlife along the cliffs and by the sea including sea lions, land iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls, Opuntia cacti and vegetation that changes colors according to the season.

Thursday: Yacht Excursion to Santa Fé Island.

It’s another early morning today where, after breakfast, you will be taken on a yacht to Santa Fé Island where you’ll find one of the more beautiful and sheltered coves in the islands. Venture on a short trek that will lead you through woods of Opuntia cacti and Palo Santo trees.  Lava lizards and colonies of sea lions can be observed but our goal will be to spot one of the largest species of land iguana that are native to Santa Fé.  After our hike, you will be able to relax with a swim or snorkel in the calm waters of the bay.

Friday: Half-Day hike to Tortuga Bay. Leisure afternoon.

This morning, you will be hiking to Tortuga bay, considered the nicest spot of the Galápagos archipelago. Tortuga Bay’s name comes from the sea turtles that go there to lay their eggs. Excellent bird watching can be found along the way and at the Bay.

Lunch will be served back at the Finch Bay Eco Hotel and, afterwards, you will be able to enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure. Rest by the pool or on the beach, enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel, or visit Puerto Ayora and mingle with the locals.

Saturday: Yacht Excursion to Bartolomé Island.

After being picked up at the hotel to board a yacht once more, you’ll be sailing to Bartolomé Island.  This island is most famous for Pinnacle Rock, a towering spearheaded obelisk that rises from the ocean’s edge and is the best known landmark in the islands. You’ll be climbing up the wooden steps to the summit to enjoy a spectacular view of the Galapagos scenery from above. Nearby, you’ll be able to observe interesting lava formations, sea lions and penguins. To relax, enjoy snorkeling or swimming at the beach.

Sunday: Guided tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station. Transfer to the airport.

You will leave the hotel early this morning to visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the giant tortoise pens within an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest that is home to many land birds. These are the headquarters of scientific investigation, conservation and the National Park administration.

After visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station, you will proceed directly to the airport via an overland transfer to the airport in Baltra Island to fly back to the continent.
