Good to Know:

  • Costa Rica’s weather is dry and hot from December to March and wetter from May to November (heavier rainfall occurs in September and October).
  • In addition to appropriate gear for your chosen activities, pack light but long clothing to protect against the sunlight and mosquitoes.

  • The main attraction in Tortuguero National Park are its endangered species of turtles. Nesting season occurs between July and September.
  • Manuel Antonio National Park is open every day from 7am to 4pm. It only closes on Mondays from July to November.

  • Arenal Volcano has been active since it woke up after 400 years of being dormant. Today, it is one of the world’s most active volcanoes with huge ash columns, explosions and glowing red lava produced almost every day.

Day 1: Arrival in San Jose, Costa Rica. Transfer to hotel.

Welcome to Costa Rica! You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel – Grano de Oro (which in English means “Grain of Gold”).  This very elegant hotel is full of charm and conveniently located in San Jose. The hotel was once a Tropical Victorian mansion; it still maintains the warmth and comfort of a private home.

Day 2: Bus and boat trip to Tortuguero. Transfer to Manatus Lodge.

After a bus transfer and boat ride, you will arrive at Tortuguero National Park, where you will be transferred to your hotel, Manatus Lodge. You will be at your leisure to enjoy the surrounding area and the luxuries of your hotel.  

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park Tour.

Today you have the opportunity to explore the Tortuguero National Park area. Hiking and boat trips are included. The park has a great biological variety with rainforests, swamps, beaches, and lagoons ready for you to explore. It is home to countless endangered species as well as unique animals including manatees, tropical gar, sloths, jaguars and over 375 bird species. You will also find more than 400 species of trees and approximately 2,200 species of plants.  

Day 4: Private transfer from Tortuguero to the Arenal Volcano.

This morning you will be transferred to Sarapiquí, one of Costa Rica’s most tropical regions carpeted with fruit plantations and encompassing a number of protected wildlife areas. From here, you will connect with your private transport onto the Arenal Volcano National Park, where you will spend the night at Arenal Springs Resort & Spa.

Day 5: Leisure day at Arenal Volcano.

Today you will have a variety of tours to choose from to explore the Arenal Volcano National Park. You may also choose to enjoy the luxuries of your hotel at your leisure.

Optional tours include: Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge; Tour To the Arenal Volcano and Tabacón Resort Hot Springs; Sport Fishing in the Arenal Lake; Arenal Volcano Hike Tour; Mountain Biking; Venado Caves Tour; Horseback Riding to Arenal Volcano; Peñas Blancas Safari Float.

Day 6: Private transfer from Arenal to Monteverde.

Today you will be picked up at your hotel to be transferred to El Establo Mountain Lodge, a family-owned lodge located right next to Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. The hotel is one of the most luxurious in the area and the perfect base from which to explore Monteverde.

Day 7: Leisure day at Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve.

Today you have the full day to explore the unique scenery and activities in Monteverde. Some of the optional tours you may chose from include bird-watching, guided national history walks, canopy tours, hanging bridges, horseback-riding, and coffee tours, among others.

Day 8: Private transfer from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio National Park.

After being picked up at your hotel today, you will taken on a private transfer to Parador Resort & Spa. This eco-friendly hotel is the epitome of responsible luxury. Besides its many luxuries, the resort also offers sweeping views of the Manuel Antonio National Park, which you will be exploring tomorrow.

Day 9-10: Leisure days at Manuel Antonio National Park.

You will have 2 days at your leisure to enjoy and explore Manuel Antonio. Located on the Pacific Coast, the national park is an estuary full of mangroves, a lagoon, and many beautiful beaches. There are winding paths throughout the 1500 acres of land and 136,000 hectares of protected marine environment.  In the park, you will you encounter monkeys, sloths and a plethora of bird species.

Day 11: Private transfer from Manuel Antonio to San José.

Today you will be met at your hotel to embark on a 4-hour return journey to San José. Upon arrival in San José you will be transferred to your hotel, El Rodeo Hotel. El Rodeo is a charming boutique hotel located just 10 minutes away from the Santamaría International Airport.

Day 12: Transfer to airport.

Today you will be met at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight home.
